It’s important to properly clean your Venetian blinds and vertical blinds if you want to maintain their condition for as long as possible.
While blinds look good in almost any setting, they can get dusty quickly, which is why some people put off cleaning them. When you do get around to the task, the dust has built up.
With regular cleaning, your blinds will stand the test of time and your whole house will feel much cleaner.
How To Clean Venetian Blinds
Venetian blinds are a popular choice because they’re functional and look good in any home. However, they can be tricky to keep clean. Here’s our step-by-step guide:
1. Vacuum
You can vacuum your blinds and window sill by using the soft brush attachment of a vacuum cleaner. Be sure to vacuum each slat carefully, without scratching the surface.
2. Get rid of the remaining surface dust
Use something that’s going to effectively remove the dust from your blinds without spreading it, like a microfibre cloth or duster.
3. Wipe them clean with a soapy solution
If you’ve got aluminium or PVC Venetian blinds, try adding three drops of dishwashing liquid with a little bi-carb soda to a bucket of warm water. For timber Venetian blinds, use a small amount of wood cleaner. Don’t use water on wooden blinds as it can cause them to warp.
Clean each slat horizontally by wiping slowly in the direction of the grain to avoid damaging the slats. Turn the blinds one way, then the other, to ensure you’ve thoroughly cleaned both sides. Remember to rinse the cloth regularly.
How To Clean Vertical Blinds
Vertical blinds are often used in wide spaces such as doors or large windows, meaning there are lots of slats to clean. Learn our simple step-by-step guide:
1. Remove surface dust with a vacuum
The soft brush of your vacuum cleaner is an effective means of removing dust from your vertical blinds. Remember to vacuum both sides.
2. Wipe them clean
Use a damp cloth and carefully wipe the edges and body of each slat to ensure a thorough clean. If there are sticky marks use a mixture of warm water, detergent and bi-carb soda to gently scrub them off.
3. Unclip the blinds
If you’re finding it difficult to clean your vertical blinds while they’re still attached, why not unclip them? Place them on a long table to wipe, or wash them in the bath. Make sure they’re completely dry before reattaching them.
Remember to clean your blinds regularly, giving them a quick dust every week and a thorough clean once a month.
